Are you ready to slow down?

Have you ever taken the time to watch kids on a merry-go-round, or listen to the rain slapping the ground? Have you ever followed a butterfly’s erratic flight or gazed at the sun into the fading night?

I don’t know how many times of  I have whizzed by somebody that I know in a busy mall or get so focused on completing a task at my desk that I never look up.  Sometimes I hardly hear, “How are you?” Let alone take the time to reply. It’s so easy to get caught up in a packed schedule of appointments. I bet some of you are like me.  Often when my day is done I lie in bed with the next hundred chores running through my head. Sound familiar?

I, like most of us, am also guilty of telling family and friends, “We’ll do it tomorrow, or “Not now I simply don’t have time.”  We all have told a friend, “Let’s get together sometime.”  In truth, we know that “sometime” will never happen.

When you run so fast to get somewhere, you miss all the fun of getting there. When you worry and hurry through your day, it is like an unopened gift thrown away. Life is not a race.

So, this holiday season I have promised myself to take it slower, hear the music and to realize that it’s perfectly fine to stop and smell the coffee! I hope you will do the same.

‘Happiness is as a butterfly, which when pursued, is always beyond our grasp, but which is you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you. “
