On Sunday afternoons, my husband and I enjoy sitting in our backyard. This particular afternoon there was a strong breeze and a slight chill in the air. The leaves were starting to fall off the trees. The once green leaves were now shades of yellow, red and orange. My yard was transformed into a painter’s canvas, the colors were so brilliant it was breathtaking.
Autumn is such a magnificent time of year, even trips to the grocery store are more pleasant because of the beauty of autumn. The thought of the work of raking up all of those leaves did cross my mind. However, the opportunity to stop and enjoy their spectacular beauty will be well worth it.
The mood of the day is often set by our focus. If we focus on our problems, our mood will likely be glum. If we focus on our blessings, then in spite of our problems, we can experience each day as a gift from God.
If we are thankful for the beauty of autumn leaves, raking them will be more enjoyable. As I rake leaves, I focus on their beauty, so the task is less of a burden.
I challenge you to set your focus, by finding something to appreciate when a problem or mundane task needs your attention.
“I loved autumn, the one season of the year that God seemed to have put there just for the beauty of it.”
