Change is Never Far off

Paradise for Sure

Paradise for Sure

As some of you know, this week I have spent with my family in Maui. For me this is paradise. A small island where I can watch the waves crash from my comfortable lanai as I sip my morning coffee.

Yesterday we drove up the windy road to view the Haleakala Crater. As we traveled up the mountain, the vegetation kept changing. With every turn on the hairpin curves, I could see the temperature dropping on the dashboard thermometer.

At the summit, we eagerly got out of the car. The impact of the cold wind and temperature startled me. In the matter of an hour, we left a balmy 75 degrees at the base. We braced ourselves as we walked to the lookout where the temperature had dropped to a chilly 42 degrees.

It amazed me how fast this change occurred. Everything I read about this trip said to dress warmly in preparation for the cold. However, it was still a shock.

I sometimes think that change in our life is like this. We try to prepare for it. And yes, we know it can happen suddenly. However, when we actually experience it we are surprised and shocked.

My personal goal is to look at change as something that will stretch my character. I will try to enjoy the experience and learn from the lessons along the way.
Mahalo.

What a view from the top.

What a view from the top.
