Just Say Yes

Last weekend a neighbor invited us to participate in an RV Rally. This is something I would have never done on my own. There were about 22 couples that traveled down near Olympia to stay the weekend in an RV park.   We got together for meals, games, and classes. If I hadn’t said yes, I would have missed out on a great time.

My husband and I were sitting out in front of the RV. James and Lindsey came over and asked us if we wanted to play Peg’s and Jokers. It is a game that uses a deck of cards to move around a pegboard.  I was tired and was tempted to tell them that I wanted to simply sit back and rest. However, I did not. The next thing I knew, another couple came over to play. By the end of the afternoon, we had quite a few people gathered around our little picnic table. We were all laughing and strategizing my next move on the board. Again, if I hadn’t said yes, I would have missed out on meeting new people.

After dinner that night, James asked us to stay and play card bingo with the group. We all gathered around long tables and listened carefully to Mike, calling out which card to play. The winning pot increased with each round.

Not long after the game started, I yelled out “Bingo”. We continued to play. I yelled out Bingo for the second time that night. I was smiling from ear to ear. No one could believe that I could win two times in a row.

When I sat back and reflected on the weekend, I realized that saying yes allowed me to meet new people, learn new skills and have a whole lot of fun.

The next time you are tempted to say no when you are asked to participate – DON’T. Say yes and savor the experience.
