The School Bus

The other morning, I was running late. I drove my usual route to work as fast as I could. All of a sudden, I found myself behind a school bus.

“Great,” I thought to myself. “I’m never going to make it to my 8:30 meeting.”

There wasn’t much I could do about it as going around a school bus with its stop sign out was out of the question. That was a risk I was not willing to take. Therefore,  I decided to hang back and enjoy the drive.

It’s a $450 fine to go around a bus when the stop sign is out.

At the first stop, I watched a mom hold her little girl’s hand all the way up the doorstep. When the bus pulled away, the mom enthusiastically waved as the vehicle went farther down the road.

Have a nice day Kimberly

The next stop was a short block away. This time the mom was on the opposite side of the street. She carefully looked both ways before she sent her daughter across to board the bus. She never took her eyes off her daughter until she was safely on the bus.

The last stop, a dad was waiting with his son. The dad was in a scooter. He motioned to his son to walk up to the bus. He waited at the corner nodding and smiling until the bus drove off.

As I pulled into the office parking lot, I thought about my slow morning commute and what I witnessed every time the bus came to a stop.

How wonderful to have someone in your life that sees that you get on the bus each day. We all need someone whether it’s a parent, spouse or a higher being to help us safely make our way in the world. I will always appreciate those special people in my life; my husband, my mother, family and friends.  I know all of them care enough about me to make sure that I board the bus in one piece.

Who in your life will make sure that you catch the morning bus?
